line is Kemah to Venice (350 miles) If weather becomes an issue you can bail
out at the 240 mile mark after 48 hours and head up the Atchafalaya to NO on
the ICW without giving up a lot (yellow line) Last year we bailed
before we got to the Atchafalaya because of consistent 4'ers on the bow at
the 30 hour mark. This year (if we go offshore initially) I'll stay a
bit closer inland so the beat to land is always less than 20 miles.
I'll likely head for the Atchafalaya and only go around to Venice if
conditions are nice for that long....The good
part about Venice from an offshore perspective is you can go right thru the
LA peninsula and dump right into the Mississippi Sound instead of rounding
the horn of Louisiana.... lol. From
New Orleans on.. the trip gets easier and easier until you traverse the
armpit of Florida... (going form Panama City to Tampa /Ft. Myers) Then
it's smiles and shirt sleeves all the way to the Gulfstream.
